Buxa National Park

Buxa National Park is located in Jalpaiguri district of West Bengal. This National Park is part of Buxa Tiger Reserve and  and Buxar wildlife sanctuary which were was  created in the year 1983 and 1986 respectively. Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary of Bhutan  situated on the north to this national park and the  Manas National park lies on the east. Buxar tiger reserve serve as International corridor for Asian elephant migration between India and Bhutan.

Flagship animal of the national park: Royal Bengal Tiger, Asiatic Elephant

The National Park was established in 1997.
Notified area of the National Park is 117. 10 sq. km.
Notification No.3403-For/11B-6/95 dt. 05.12.1997.
Best time for visiting the National Park is from October to April.


Vegetation of the National Park is of East  Himalayan moist mixed deciduous forest, and East Himalayan subtropical wet hill forest type including moist sal savannah. The predominating trees in the forest are sal, gamhar, simul, champa,  chikrasi etc.



Many species of mammal including Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, clouded leopard, wild dogs, giant squirrel, wild buffalo, gaur, Chinese pangolin, hispid hare, hog deer. Chital, Hoary-bellied squirrel and wild boar etc.


Lesser  adjutant (Leptoptilos javanicus), white-rumped vulture (Gyps bengalensis), slender-billed vulture (Gyps tenuirostris),Eurasian griffon (Gyps fulvus), Amur falcon (Falco amurensis), Malayan night heron (Gorsachius melanolophus), Oriental pied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris),common merganser (Mergus merganser), Eurasian teal (Anas crecca), black-necked crane (Grus nigricollis), black stork (Ciconia nigra), and ferruginous pochard (Aythya nyroca), chestnut-breasted partridge (Arborophila mandellii), rufous-necked hornbill (Aceros nipalensis), chestnut-breasted partridge (Arborophila mandellii), cinnamon bittern (Ixobrychus cinnamomeus), stripe-breasted woodpecker (Dendrocopos atratus),rufous necked hornbill (Aceros nipalensis), ferruginous pochard (Aythya nyroca) and great hornbill (Buceros bicornis) etc.


Varieties of Python (Indian rock python, Burmese python and Reticulated python) and many different species of land tortoise.

Nearest town Alipurduar is well connected with roads.
