Balpakram National Park

Balpakram National Park is located in Indian state Meghalaya. Its located south of the Garo Hill range. Balpakram means ‘land of the eternal wind’ in Garo dialect. This national park is part of Garo Hills Conservation Area (GHCA), which is inscribed in  UNESCO World Heritage tentative list.

Flagship Animal: Red Panda

Notified Area of National Park: 220 km2

The sanctuary was designated in 1986.

Best time of visit is from October to April.


Vegetation is subtropical, tropical deciduous and semi evergreen type.



Red panda, barking deer, Bengal tiger, marbled cat, Asian golden cat, wild water buffalo, and Indian elephant etc.

Nearest Airport: Shillong

Nearest Railway Station: Guwahati

Sanctuary entry point is well connected to Shillong.
